Salesforce made a big shift starting July 21, 2025. From that day on, all Salesforce certifications—including Tableau, MuleSoft, Slack, and Accredited Professional exams—moved under Trailhead AcademyWebassessor, the old platform, is no longer used. Join us to learn about How to Register for a Salesforce Certification Exam on Trailhead Academy.

So, if you’re wondering how to sign up for your next exam or you’re registering for the first time, this guide will walk you through exactly what to do, what to expect, and how to avoid common mistakes. Let’s walk through the process using the Advanced Field Service Accredited Professional (AP-209) as a live example.

Step 1: Go to Trailhead Academy’s Exam Catalog

Start here: Trailhead Academy Catalog

You’ll land on a searchable catalog of all active Salesforce certifications. You can filter by:

  • Product (Salesforce, Tableau, MuleSoft, etc.)
  • Role (Administrator, Consultant, Developer, etc.)
  • Level (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced)

Or just sort alphabetically. Search for Advanced Field Service Accredited Professional and click on it.

Step 3: Decide How You Want to Take the Exam

Trailhead Academy gives you two ways to take your certification exam:

  1. Online, from home using the OnVUE platform
  2. In person at a Pearson test center

Let’s focus on the online option, since that’s what most people go with now.

But it comes with strict requirements. Before you register, ask yourself:

  • Can you take the test in a quiet, private room with no interruptions?
  • Do you have a working webcam, mic, and a stable internet connection (minimum 6 Mbps)?
  • Is your computer running Windows 10 or macOS 13 or higher? (No tablets or virtual machines allowed)
  • Are you prepared to clear your workspace of all papers, electronics, or other distractions?

The entire session will be recorded. If someone else is seen or heard in the room—even accidentally—your test can be terminated and you won’t get a refund. That applies to unexpected background noise too. So take the room setup seriously.

Also, your photo ID must match your name exactly as entered during registration. Mismatched names = no entry.

Step 4: Schedule Your Exam

Once you’ve selected the exam and agreed to the policies, you’ll be asked to confirm your time zone. Make sure it’s correct—for example, if you’re in India, it should show:
Asia/Kolkata – IST

Next, pick a date and time. The system will only show you the available slots. You’ll see options like:

  • Date: Thursday, July 31, 2025
  • Check-in time: 8:00 AM IST
  • Exam start time: 8:30 AM IST

You can also choose how times are displayed—12-hour or 24-hour format.

Once you’ve selected your slot, proceed to payment.

Step 5: Make Payment and Finalize Registration

The registration fee is usually $150 + applicable tax, so expect to pay around $177 total.

You’ll be able to apply a voucher or promotion code if you have one. Otherwise, enter your billing details, complete the payment, and you’re done.

You’ll receive a confirmation email with your booking details, check-in instructions, and a link to run your system test.

Enter Your Payment and Billing Info

This is where you’ll pay the exam fee.

You can enter a Voucher or Promo Code if you have one.

Once your billing address and payment info are correct, check the box to agree to the terms.

Click Proceed to complete your registration.

Step 6: Run the System Test (Mandatory)

Before exam day, you must test your device using the OnVUE system test tool. It checks:

  • Your webcam
  • Your microphone
  • Internet speed and reliability
  • System compatibility

Run this from the same computer, same location, and same network where you’ll be taking the exam.

It’s a simple step, but skipping this is one of the most common causes of last-minute test day issues. Don’t leave it for the morning of the exam. Do it a day or two before.

Step 7: Prepare Your Exam Environment

Before the exam starts, get everything ready. Here’s a checklist:

  • Restart your computer before check-in
  • Use a wired connection if possible
  • Disconnect all second monitors
  • Clear your desk
  • Make sure no one enters the room
  • Keep your ID ready
  • Don’t wear a watch, headphones, or hooded clothing
  • Go to the bathroom beforehand—you can’t leave once the exam begins

Check-in starts 30 minutes before your scheduled time. You’ll take photos of your surroundings, show your ID, and complete facial recognition verification. Once cleared, you’ll be placed into the exam environment.

Final Notes

The move to Trailhead Academy is actually a good thing. It centralizes everything—your exam history, current certifications, upcoming renewals, and even personalized recommendations based on your career goals.

But with that convenience comes more structure and tighter rules. Make sure you read through the instructions, prep properly, and give yourself enough time on the day of the test.
